Music Events         

• Nov. 11: Idaho State-Civic Symphony Concert: Douglas Lowry Tribute, 7:30 p.m., Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Idaho State-Civic Symphony will honor the late Douglas Lowry and his works during this concert. Lowry was a Pocatello native who went on to the dean of the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. Winners of the Young Artist Competition, Rumeng Liao and Anna Black, will also perform. The Symphony will perform Lowry���s ���Fanfare for Flora,��� and ���Between Blues and Hard Places,��� Tchaikovsky���s ���Violin Concerto, Op. 35��� and Bernstein���s ���Symphonic Dances form West Side Story.��� There will be pre-concert beginning activities at 6 p.m. Tickets: www.thesymphony.us or at the 厙ぴ勛圖 Box Office at 282-3595.

• Nov. 16: 厙ぴ勛圖 Symphonic Band and Civic Concert Band, 7:30 p.m., Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Symphonic Band will perform pieces surrounding dances including Paul Dukas��� ���Sorcerer���s Apprentice,��� Norman Dello Joio���s ���Satiric Dances,��� Dmitri Kabalevsky���s ���Comedicans��� Gallop,��� Samuel Hazo���s ���Arabesque��� and David Holsinger���s ���Liturgical Dances.��� They Symphonic Band will be directed by Greg Hotrum. The Civic Concert Band features more than 50 local musicians including 厙ぴ勛圖 students, high school students and community members. They will perform Vasilij Agapkin���s ���A Slavic Farewell,��� Robert Spittal���s ���Winter Dreams��� and Alfred Reed���s ���Russian Christmas Music.��� They will be directed by Erin Armstrong.Tickets: $8 for adults, $6 for faculty & staff, $4 for pre-college students, free for 厙ぴ勛圖 students

• Nov. 18: Camerata Singers, 7:30 p.m. in the Jensen Grant Concert Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center. The 90-voice Camerata Singers will perform ���Elohim Hashivenu��� by Salomone Rossi, Franz Schubert���s ���MASS in G��� with soloists Melanie Reynolds, Danny Leavitt, and Joe Marley, Aaron Copeland���s ���The Promise of Living��� featuring Adonna Drake and LeAnne Smith, and Stephen Paulus��� arrangement of ���We Gather Together��� and Peter J. Wilhousky���s arrangement of ���The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Tickets: $8 for adults, $6 for 厙ぴ勛圖 faculty and staff, $4 for precollege students and             free for 厙ぴ勛圖 students.

Art Events and Exhibits

• Nov. 7 to Nov. 18: The Environmental Impact of War: Visual Images, John B. Davis Gallery in the Fine Arts Building. The exhibit consists of 15 images depicting the environmental damage inflicted by war. Sponsored by the Idaho Humanities Council. Davis Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Nov. 7 to Nov. 18: Vigilance: Fourth Annual Veterans Art Exhibition, Compartment Gallery in the Fine Arts Building. The exhibit will consist of nine artists��� work with more than 20 pieces of art. The works on display include ceramics, metals, wood-carving and paintings. Compartment Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Nov. 11: Visiting Artist Lily Lee Artist Talk. 5 p.m. in the Transition Gallery in the Pond Student Union Visiting artist Lily Lee will give an artist talk on the opening of her exhibit ���Securement.��� Lee is currently an assistant professor of sculpture at Boise State University. Her work has been exhibited in the Ukraine, Portugal, Hungary and throughout the United States. Tickets: Free

• Nov. 28: Visiting Artist Lily Lee Netting Workshop. 1 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building. Visiting artist Lily Lee will return to 厙ぴ勛圖 give a netting workshop to the public in the Fine Arts Building. The workshop has limited space and a deposit/materials fee of $10 per participant. Contact Naomi Adams at adamnaom@isu.edu or 282-3527 to register.

• Nov. 30 to Dec. 9: 4 Artists 4 Faculty Exhibition. John B. Davis Gallery in the Fine Arts Building. The exhibit will feature work from new faculty members Jeffrey Adams, Christopher Pickett, Laura Makowski and Joanna Jenks.Davis Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Nov. 30 to Dec. 9: BA Senior Thesis Exhibition for Kaitlyn Johnson ���Meraki." Compartment Gallery in the Fine Arts Building. This will be senior Kaitlyn Johnson first and final show as an art student at 厙ぴ勛圖. Her exhibit titled, ���Meraki��� is named after a Greek term that describes the act of placing the  soul, creativity or love into something. Her show is a visual reference towards her attempt at achieving Meraki. Her work includes highly abstract paintings that hint toward abstract inspirations, idea or feelings that people share but don���t have the exact word to describe each emotion. Johnson said her pieces are open for interpretation and exploration, and patrons can expect to feel intense emotions. Compartment Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
