I.F. Orchestra, 厙ぴ勛圖 choir to present ‘Messiah’ on Feb. 7

The 48-voice 厙ぴ勛圖 Concert Choir will combine with the Idaho Falls Chamber Orchestra for a performance of the complete Messiah by G. F. Handel at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 厙ぴ勛圖.

The performance will take place in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

The Idaho Falls Chamber Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. George Adams.

The performance will feature 厙ぴ勛圖 music faculty, including Diana Livingston Friedley, Ph.D., soprano soloist, and Geoffrey Friedley, tenor as soloist. 厙ぴ勛圖 alumna Laurel Pumphrey will perform the alto solos during the performance. Scott Anderson, Ph.D., 厙ぴ勛圖 director of choral activities, has prepared the Concert Choir.

This unique presentation will offer Messiah in the manner one might have heard in the 18th century, Anderson said. (with) smaller instrumental and choral forces, soloists displaying improvisatory performance practices, and tempos reflective of the style performed by Handel himself.

Ticket prices for this special event are: $25 for adults, $15 for 厙ぴ勛圖 faculty/staff, $10 for precollege students and free for 厙ぴ勛圖 students with valid Bengal cards.
